Contest Time!!!!

We decided that naming 25 birds is a lot, so we are holding a contest. We want you guys to submit your favorite chicken names.
Here are the rules:

1) You can submit as many names as you want, the more the better.
2) These birds are going to be pets so their name will stick with them. This means that names cannot contain obscene language or anything else that may offend the chicken.
3) The top 5 names will be chosen and announced (if there are super good names we will have more than five). We will include pictures of the chickens that have received the names.
4) The deadline for entries is March 30th. That's a week after the chicks get here (so that we have time to examine personalities and give names appropriately).

Chicken House

We are working on designing our chicken house, for when our twenty-six chicks are ready to move outside. We are going to make it a ten by ten house, with a main door and a chicken door. We are then making an enclosure, so they can spend time scratching in the dirt. We are considering putting a dutch door instead of a chicken door, so that we can have easy access to their outside enclosure. There will be four roosts inside, a heat lamp, and two nesting boxes, styled so they are triangular and stacked on top of each other. This way they will fit into the corners of the house, therefore saving space. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the house more chicken and user friendly, please comment!

Yay!

Ok, so we got the birds ordered. We are super excited! We got: Jackson (a White Crested Black Polish Rooster), 4 Americanas, 2 Buff Minorcas, 1 Dark Brahma, 2 Light Brahmas, 2 Silver Laced Wyndottes, 1 White Silkie, 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 2 Black Australorps, 2 Silver Spangled Hamburgs, 2 Partridge Chochins, 2 Golden Campines, and finally 2 Pearl-White Leghorns. These are all hens except Jackson. The White Silkie can only be ordered "straight-run" meaning that it could be a rooster or a hen. We are waiting anxiously for their arrival, like we said before, they won't be here until March 23rd.

We will also be receiving a free rare special chick, also straight run. We hope it will be a hen, and really nice and cute.

We will post some pics of the chicks when they arrive and then some more when they mature.

Here is a pic of a White Crested Black Polish chick. When it matures it will be all black with a white crest (go figure) like to other picture.

Delivery Date Change

It looks like the chicks will be here on March 23rd not February as we originally thought. I will give an update later about what birds we order.
